Drawing Final Exam: Required Question
The project that was most challenging for me was the "Look at that View" project. Although it was a challenge, I feel that my piece was very successful, and looked very clean. It is by far my favorite piece that I did in this class, and I am quite proud of it. It took me a while to come up with the idea, but once I did, I was very excited to start, and I would consider this to be my most original and creative project. I think my idea was original because it is my own picture, which is of The historic Christ Church in Old Town Alexandria, where George Washington attended. The first image attached is the original one I took, and the second was is the edited one, where I cropped it to give a different perspective.
The medium I used was prismacolors, which are my favorite, so I believe that is one reason this piece was so successful. Although my final came out well, it was a challenge at times. One challenge I encountered was that it was time consuming and drawing the individual bricks was very tedious. Another challenge I encountered was drawing the three-point perspective of the building. I was able to get it to look right eventually, but it took a few tries. Also I made the mistake of coloring the tree branches before coloring the sky, which made it difficult to draw the sky around the trees. The colors I used in this piece make it pop, and I think I made a good choice with the colors of the bricks. For the bricks I used probably eight or ten different browns and reds, which made them look more realistic and better looking. I also think I did a good job with coloring the lower building, and looks very good in person. The one thing I don't like about it is the fact that the tree branches don't look realistic, and kind of look messy in relation to sky and clouds. Question # 4

This is Isabella's "Look at that View" final project, and it was my favorite one from the whole class. I was amazed when I first saw it, and thought it was such an original idea, (I wish I had come up with it myself.) I love how she was able to make the cake white, but also incorporated some blues to make it pop. I like the simplicity of it, but the arrangement of flowers really adds to the piece. Her flowers are very intricate, and you can tell that she spent a lot of time on each individual flower. Overall the value she used with the prismacolors really makes the piece look realistic, and I love how she was able to make the cake look white on top of the gray paper. I can imagine that drawing this cake from this perspective was challenging, but she did a great job with making it look proportional. It's so good I have no complaints, I would only suggest that she could add something to the background, but I understand that she ran out of time.
Question # 3- Part 1
The first mini lesson that I thought was the most beneficial was the first one we did; blind and modified contour hands. The first thing we were assigned to do was to draw our hand with our back towards the sketchbook, and looking at our hand only. This mini lesson taught me to use my eyes when drawing, and that I should follow my eyes with my pencil. I learned that taking your time makes for a better result, and that you shouldn't rush or it will not look right. As you can see after practicing several times I was able to make a huge improvement, and my hands began to look realistic. I feel like we were given enough instruction, and because it was explained so well, it made me more successful. By having us do multiple practices, it trained us to draw differently than we were used to. Prior to being in this class I was never good at drawing hands, but now I feel more confident if I were to try again.
Question # 3- Part 2
The second mini lesson that I thought was the most beneficial was drawing the facial features. We first started out with cutting images from magazines, which were good pictures to start drawing with. This activity was done before we learned how to draw each feature, so we could know where we stood in drawing these, and how we could improve our work. I think the most beneficial part was when we were taught how to draw eyes. We spent an entire class drawing eyes, which was good because we were able to go in depth, and it really taught me a lot. I think that by doing all of these practices it really paid off in my self portrait, and I now feel more comfortable when drawing facial features. Facial features were always difficult for me to draw, and I still struggle with getting the proportions right, but I think I have improved quite a bit.
