Brainstorming
For this project, our assignment was to create an interior space. I was excited for this assignment because not only did we have some leeway for the medium we used, but I also love drawing interiors. For a while I wanted to be an interior designer, so this project was an interesting subject for me to do.
My original ideas were to draw the Washington DC metro, an office space, a cave, a conference room, or a library. Once I drew my compositional sketches I found that I really liked the office space. I wasn't completely sold on this idea, so I decided to take pictures at the NC State library. Here they have unique architecture and furniture, so it made it easier to come up with an interesting interior. I took some good pictures there, and was very satisfied with the pictures.

Compositional Sketches
I narrowed down my favorite photos to 2: the office space and the NC State library. I liked both of them, but once I sketched them out I realized I really liked the library photo. I liked the vibrant colors and how the furniture was placed. I've found that doing these sketches really helps me to figure out what I will be able to accomplish best.
For this project I decided to use a new medium I had never used before; Gouache. The only way I can describe it is that it's a mix between acrylic paint and watercolor. I first practiced on watercolor paper and realized I liked it. I found it easy to blend and control, but was also fairly quick. Because I struggle with time management, I wanted to use something that wouldn't take too long.
Successes
Considering this was my first time using gouache, I think it turned out pretty decent. My favorite part is the plant, and I enjoyed adding variations of greens to the leaves. I also like how the orange wall came out. Overall I liked this project and found it to be interesting.
