Brainstorming:
I was excited for this project because landscapes and architecture are my favorite kind of things to draw/paint. For this project we were required to use paint: either oil or acrylic. I decided to use oil because I knew that I preferred it. Last year in art 3 we practiced with both oil and acrylic and I found oil to be much easier to work with.
I knew that I wanted to use a picture from my trip to Cancun in 2006. I really enjoyed this trip and had some pictures I really liked. I decided on a picture of the hotel we stayed in which featured a view of the pool and the ocean from our balcony.
I'm not really sure why I decided to paint such a detailed picture considering I work very slow and struggle with time management.
Challenges:
I didn't have too many challenges when creating this painting, other than time management. I would have to say it was difficult to paint the thin lines of the balcony and I think that they could be better if I used a thinner brush.
Successes:
I believe that this piece is fairly successful. It helped that I liked the topic and that I really like oil paint. I like the colors in the sky and I also liked the palm trees I made. Overall I'd say this is one of my more successful projects.
Growth:
Boy did I learn A LOT about oil paint. Although we spent some time experimenting with it last year in ART 3, I feel like I was still lacking confidence/knowledge when using it. Going in depth with how to use the paints was VERY helpful, and I really appreciated spending a few days learning how to paint with oil properly.
(As I'm typing this I realized that we learned how to use oil paint earlier in the semester... oops! this all still applies though!)
I wouldn't change much about this project simply because I really enjoyed doing it. I would definitely recommend this project to future classes.
